Venture Accelerator Announces 2012 Participants
Startup Teams Win Seed Investment, Berth in Accelerator, Slot on Pitch Day
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (July 31, 2012) – VentureSpur, the new seed fund and venture accelerator in Oklahoma City, announced its 2012 VentureSpur Participants today. The accelerator also made the surprise announcement that it had decided to invest in four companies, rather than three, as had been originally planned.
The startup teams winning admission are from a range of industries and from across Oklahoma:
GoldFire Studios has launched a second generation social gaming and development platform that allows gamers to truly build friendships and communities in real-time and has already published several successful games on the platform with hundreds of thousands of users.
idefi Music has launched a revolutionary digital music distribution system that ensures that every artist using the system gets paid for their work and allows successful artists to earn traditional record label promotion and distribution services as their music grows in popularity.
MesoBio has exclusive rights to the most comprehensive and accurate library of miRNA vectors in the world, which it reproduces for therapeutics researchers worldwide, greatly enhancing the efficiency and productivity of their research.
PigeonMe has launched a mobile application that helps friends and families meet up without the need for multiple text messages or phone calls. The application is also being used by participants in non-profit run/walk fundraising events to communicate with supporters and runners in real-time, enhancing the event and improving fund-raising.
“Our primary goal for this inaugural accelerator class was to attract the best startup teams in the region and to present our investors and venture capitalists on Pitch Day with promising startups they would be eager to back with investment dollars,” said Kraettli L. Epperson, Co-Founder and Managing Director of VentureSpur. “I think we’ve achieved that goal with this amazingly talented group of entrepreneurs,” said Epperson.
The 12-week acceleration program begins on August 6th and includes a seed investment of between $20,000 and $30,000 for each company, office space in VentureSpur’s downtown Oklahoma City loft office, intensive mentorship from successful entrepreneurs, hands-on workshops, free business services from business partners, and an opportunity to present to venture capitalists and angel investors during Pitch Day on November 7th at Will Rogers Theatre in Oklahoma City.
