Pointed out to us by an entrepreneurial friend of VentureSpur, Howard Haines, (@howardhaines), this study highlights the rapid growth and immediate impact that accelerators have had on the international startup and venture capital scene.

 Intended primarily as an introduction to accelerators and a launching point for discussion, this paper outlines the major accelerators in operation through mid-2010, catalogs their methods and histories, and describes their economics.

If you want a quick, thorough introduction to the worldwide accelerator ecosystem, this is the paper to read. For more in-depth financial and operational analysis, check out the many interesting papers in the bibliography. Many hours of fruitful reading to be had.
