An Interview with George Barber

George BarberGeorge Barber, Partner at Trailblazer Capital, took some time to respond to our short interview.  Find out what types of startups & technologies he finds interesting!  Read the full interview below:

What was the most important thing a mentor ever did for you?

My mentor joined my companies Board of Directors as the Independent BoD.  He added great balance for me as CEO

What do you think a mentor can do for a startup? How can a mentor help?

First; make time available and listen to what the founding teams challenges are perceived to be. Help the team validate that the issues they are focused on are indeed the critical one/few.

What kind of startups and technologies do you currently find interesting?

Enterprise mobility/BYOD; big data platforms for enterprises; semiconductor

What is the most important part of a company’s application when applying to an accelerator and why? Product description and design, market opportunity analysis, sales and marketing plan, team biographies, or something else?

For us, we tend to evaluate startups in the following order: TEAM (relative domain expertise) then Product (is it truly unique/differentiated in the eyes of the target customers) then Market (does it have potential to be a fast growing; and ultimately significant market; well thought out Go To Market plan) and then Finance.

This blog is dedicated to providing advice, tools and encouragement from one entrepreneur to another. I want to keep this practical and accessible for the new entrepreneur while also providing enough sophistication and depth to prove useful to the successful serial entrepreneur. My target rests somewhere between the garage and the board room, where the work gets done and the hockey stick emerges.
