Evidence-Based HR for Startups Event a Hit!

PeopleAnswers-logoWith more than 100 investors, mentors and members of the Dallas entrepreneurial community, Evidence-Based HR for Startups was a big hit last night!

Held at the Collins Center, Crum Auditorium at SMU by VentureSpur, the event was one of several public events hosted by the accelerator to provide education and networking opportunities for the community.

IMG_1365Featuring serial entrepreneur Gab Goncalves, founder and CEO of PeopleAnswers, and sponsored by TriNet On Demand HR services, the event included several segments on team-building for startups.trinet_logo_large

The event started with comments from special guest Bill Boyce, President of the Texas Legends, a D-League NBA team. Bill spoke briefly on his experience building one of the most successful development teams in the NBA and about being named the 2013 Development League Executive of the Year.2013-09-04 17.47.08IMG_1394

He also brought along several prizes for a drawing at the event, including a signed basketball, signed and framed jersey and front-row on-the-floor tickets to an upcoming game.

Next, the energy was high as VentureSpur 2013 startup teams each made an elevator pitch – a 30-second description of their company, suitable for sharing on a brief elevator ride:

Gab discussed what his company does and how it helps corporations to select better employment candidates – ultimately resulting in employee turnover reduction of 46%, on average!

He discussed the concept, initial launch, funding path, technical and operational development, sales process and the ultimate state of the company today. It was inspirational story that clearly demonstrated how tenacity, hard work and a little bit of investment capital can allow entrepreneurs to have a big economic impact both in their home city and on the economy, overall.

This blog is dedicated to providing advice, tools and encouragement from one entrepreneur to another. I want to keep this practical and accessible for the new entrepreneur while also providing enough sophistication and depth to prove useful to the successful serial entrepreneur. My target rests somewhere between the garage and the board room, where the work gets done and the hockey stick emerges.
